SPECIALTY RN TRAINING:
PATHWAY TO AN ADVANCED NURSING PRACTICE

The LA Basin’s hospitals are facing a critical shortage of experienced specialty registered nurses (RNs) trained in complex perioperative, critical care, emergency, labor and delivery, and neonatal ICU care. To meet this urgent need and provide a streamlined way for working nurses to advance their practice and careers, the LABWN has partnered with local hospitals and schools to develop an innovative Specialty RN Training program with a number of unique features. To learn more, call (310) 970-7700.

CHOOSE YOUR PATH

With an initial focus on specialty RN training in perioperative and critical care, additional programs are in the works to prepare nurses specialized in emergency, labor and delivery, and neonatal ICU care. This allows practicing RNs to choose the specialty that fits their interests and skills.

BLENDED LEARNING

RNs participating in the program complete a 10- to 18-week evidence-based course that includes flexible online and classroom learning as well as hands-on clinical work completed at their current hospital or hiring hospital. This provides a smooth path to advancement or employment.

EXPERT MENTORSHIP

RN students complete up to 32 hours of clinical work related to their area of specialty in a hospital setting under the mentorship of an experienced specialty RN who guides their progress. These mentors provide real-world instruction and help students transition successfully to their new role.

EXCELLENT SUCCESS RATE

To date, 100% of participating nurses have completed the program with an average passing score of 86%. Hospitals have welcomed the addition of new specialty RNs to their care teams, and expect to see increased satisfaction and loyalty among their RN staff.

SHARING THEIR SUCCESS

“Before this course, I assumed empathy and compassion were not things that could be taught, but the facts prove otherwise. My eyes were opened to the important need for patient care coordination.”
